HOW IT WORKS:
FounderMade’s Consumer Discovery Show (CDS) brings together investors, retailers, executives and influencers to discover the world’s best new brands. The highlight of CDS will be the Consumer Award Ceremony, which supports new consumer businesses and entrepreneurs in the wellness, food and beauty sectors. If you’re a company currently building the future of one of these verticals, and have less than $500K in total revenue and have been incorporated less than five years, apply today to be considered for the CDS Newcomer Award.
- All award winners will be announced and featured in FounderMade Weekly Newsletter with minimum of 200 words of copy and link to website
- All award winners will be announced via press release
- Winners will be provided an award press kit to inform community of achievement
- Instant acknowledgment of your company’s success
- Unlimited use of award logo on company website, social media, print and other marketing collateral.
The competition works in three phases:

Nominees will be chosen by the FounderMade Advisory team and staff, and must present FounderMade with products.
Nominees must be available during the Nomination phase to answer questions and do interviews with the FounderMade team and its advisory board. The five selected nominees will be announced November 6, 2017.
Nominees must be available to be in attendance the day of the event, November 18, 2017
All applicants are required to submit a maximum one minute-long video along with their application. Videos that are properly lit, have a clear sound, are produced specifically for the CDS Newcomer Award, and describe the company’s product and mission have a higher selection rate. Only applicants that solve a problem, have created a new market or developed an innovative product and/or service in the beauty, wellness or food spaces will be considered.
Company applying must have been incorporated for less than five years (as of January 2017) and be the CEO/founders' full-time work. (i.e., no side projects, school projects or concept-stage companies)
Company applying, as well as their parents and affiliates, if any, must have earned less than $500,000 in total revenue in calendar year 2017.
Finalists will be determined based on the strength and creativity of the application and potential to transform the beauty/wellness/food experience and/or make a positive impact on the applicable industries, as determined by judges with industry expertise.
Finalists selected by the judges must have a company executive, preferably CEO/founder, and will present to the judging panel.
Judges will use the following criteria when evaluating companies:
Team: Composition of the team, background history and accomplished milestones prior to this startup
Mission: Impetus to start the company and attributable characteristics to execute and scale Innovation: is this product or concept truly innovative and predictive of the future of wellness, beauty, and/or food?
Design: Is the concept original and designed with a high taste level?
Overall impact: Is this prolific and innovative enough to garner a serious industry impact?
Business viability: Does the company solve a problem and can it scale?
RULES & REGULATIONS:
Application registration must be received by 11:59 pm EST on the date of the deadline
Entries may be submitted by individuals or teams of up to 3 members
Each company is limited to one entry
Entries must be the original work of the entrant. Entries are subject to the following funding requirements: by submitting a business idea, you represent and warrant to the FounderMade’s Consumer Discovery Award Show that you have all right, title and/or interest in the business idea submitted and the information you present is accurate and complete. Teams must disclose any funding already received at the time of registration. By submitting to FounderMade’s Consumer Discovery Award Show you are not and will not be violating any contract or third party rights including any patent, copyright, trade secret, proprietary or confidential information, trademark, publicity or privacy right. The organizing committee of the FounderMade’s Consumer Discovery Award Show reserves the right to disqualify any entrant that, in its judgment, violates the letter of the spirit of the competition guidelines, processes and rules FounderMade’s Consumer Discovery Award Show. The decisions of the committee are final and binding.
CONFIDENTIALITY AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY:
The identities of the contestants and the short description of the business disclosed in the registration, as well as any pitch delivered during any FounderMade event are considered of public domain and can be used by the FounderMade organizing committee for marketing and pr purposes. Before submitting entries, the FounderMade organizing committee urges contestants to confirm with appropriate advisors or legal counsel that any intellectual property described in their summary is protected; i.e., by appropriate intellectual property filings, notices (patent, copyright, etc.) By the owning institution and/or individuals. For any doubts about the legal status of the contestants’ own or third party intellectual property or any other aspect of their plan, the FounderMade organizing committee advises to seek independent legal counsel.
All nominated companies are required to participate in media and press opportunities related to the FounderMade Consumer Discovery Award Show. This includes, but is not limited to, the following opportunities:
Any team may be asked to provide a 150-200 word description that will be made available to media and may be released publicly, either in part or in its entirety
Any team may be asked to speak to the media for competition-related interviews when requested by the organizing committee
Any team may be asked to provide quotes and/or content for any competition-related press releases. Participating in media and press opportunities in no way, shape or form requires teams to disclose any proprietary or otherwise confidential information related to their businesses. The FounderMade organizing committee agrees to provide consultation to any team, upon request, to avoid such disclosures while participating in press-related opportunities.
You agree that you will not use the name “FounderMade” or any variation, adaptation or abbreviation thereof, or any of its trustees, officers, faculty, employees or agents, or any trademark owned by if in any advertising or publicity without the written permission of the Foundermade organizing committee. Foundermade makes no representations or warranties of any kind concerning the FounderMade Consumer Discovery Award Show, express or implied. In no event shall FounderMade be liable for any advice, information or decisions made for or on behalf of the FounderMade Consumer Discovery Award Show or for incidental or consequential damages of any kind, including economic damages or injury to property and lost profits, regardless of whether FounderMade shall be advised, shall have another reason to know or in fact shall know of the possibility of the foregoing.
